For fastening clay "S" tiles, clay Mission two-piece roofing tile, or clay flat shingle tiles over waterproof membrane, used over a minimum 15/32" plywood deck, or 1/2" OSB and/or over rigid roof insulation to steel decking, or structural concrete decks.
Use the Riness® Tile-Tie System as manufactured by Newport Tool & Fastener Company, Inc., Orange, California. The Riness® Ties are to be of (pick one) - 13 ga. (.090"dia.) Type 304 stainless steel conforming to ASTM A580; or 10 ga., (.101" dia.) copper conforming to ASTM B3; or 12 ga., (.105" dia.) Galvanized steel conforming to ASTM-A641-92.
Use one Riness® Tile Tie for each "S" tile, and one Riness® Tie for each piece of the 2-piece (cap and pan) tile, or clay shingle tile. The Riness® Ties will be anchored to the plywood or OSB deck using the double plate anchoring system encompassing two 3 diameter stamped plates of either stainless steel or galvalume using stainless steel or coated steel deck screws of appropriate length.
For insulated steel decks use the double plate anchor system encompassing two 3 diameter stamped plates of either stainless steel or galvalume using stainless steel or coated steel deck screw of appropriate length.
For structural concrete decks use the double plate anchor system encompassing two 3 diameter stamped plates of either stainless steel or galvalume using a carbon steel or stainless steel expansion fastener of appropriate length.

Runs of tile shall be anchored at a recommended spacing of 5 feet but in no case longer than 10 feet between anchor points. All anchoring points shall be sealed with Tyle Tye® Chatter Damper. Use tie wires and/or ring shank, large head (minimum 5/16") nails, and Tyle Tye® Chatter Damper (3/8" bead at the laps) for rake and ridge tiles. Rake tiles require two nails per tile of sufficient length to penetrate the deck or rake board a minimum of 3/4".
For areas designated "high wind area" by local building officials, seismic zones 3 & 4, and where slopes exceed 6 in 12:
* Use a Wind Lock Nose Hook of similar metal to the Riness® Tile-Tie system (.090" stainless steel, .101" brass, or .120" galv.). Use Wind Lock Nose Hooks on all tiles or the cover portion of all clay "S" or two-piece mission tiles, or a minimum of three courses at the eave, and all perimeter tiles including rake and ridge. Tyle-Tye® Chatter Damper adhesive can be used at the laps (all field and/or perimeter).
**Additional holding capacity can be achieved with Hurricane Side Clips for clay "S" tiles and all concrete roof tiles with an interlock channel. (All field tiles, or first three courses, or minimum eave coarse).
